Music & Rap Workshops

What are they?

GMC offers music and rap workshops to schools, youth groups and just about anyone who wants to make music!

GMC’s workshops are designed to help people to write, record and produce their own hip hop music as a way to increase confidence, knowledge of music, technology and society, and most of all, to engage them in something that is highly creative, expressive and fun.

You will get a hands on experience of recording equipment, producing music and writing lyrics.

And fully finished tracks on CD or MP3 at the end of it all!

To enquire about bringing GMC workshops to your school or youth organisation, just email workshops@gmcbeats.com or call 085 118 60 65.

Testimonials

GMC did a 3 day workshop with all 11 classes in Scoil Cholmcille, Blarney Street. He had a great rapport with the boys and they thoroughly enjoyed their time with him. Garry altered each session to suit the different age groups and was able to elicit clever, funny, rhyming and musical raps from each class. As a result, we now have a very professional recording of each rap. I would highly recommend GMC to any school, secondary or primary.
-Brenda Griffin (Primary Teacher/Musician @ Scoil Cholmcille, Blarney Street, Cork)

GMC has been involved with youth events in Triskel Arts Centre for many years both as a musician in his own right and also as a facilitator of workshops for young people. In 2008 we invited GMC to participate in a series of workshops and showcases which took place in Liverpool against the backdrop of Liverpool City of Culture.  He was a very valuable asset to the Cork delegation.
Most recently – May 2010 - GMC was involved in a very successful Hiphop Festival which Triskel organized with the support of Cork City Council.  His contribution was a key component of the success of the event.
-Ann Luttrell (Education & Community Manager, Triskel Arts Centre, Cork)

GMC ran ten rap sessions here at the project for us from September to November 2009. These sessions really helped young people from the local area to express themselves through rapping. The young people got an opportunity to showcase their skills in the community centre at the end of the sessions for their parents and other groups in the community. The sessions were a great success overall.
-Mark Peyton (FADA Project, Farranree, Cork)

We first met GMC while attending a week long event in Liverpool with the Triskel Arts Centre, it was obvious then that he is very dedicated, professional and creative in his approach to his work and when working with young people.

During the last few years we have worked with GMC in the Triskel Arts Centre and at various music events in the city. We also employed him at various occasions throughout the last 3 years to teach specific technical, recording, production and creative elements of creating music, specifically in rapping.  He is reliable and is very adaptable when working with groups of young people.

GMC is respected and admired by the young people who attend our course, he has always worked well with the groups encouraging and challenging them creatively, while always remaining friendly, patient and fun in his approach to teaching.
-Sinéad Cliffe (Arts Coordinator @ Youth Work Ireland Cork, Gurranabraher Arts Project, Cork)
